Carlyle D. Isner's Tank

Carlyle D. Isner's 180 Gallon Reef Tank

Carlyle D. Isner's Tank Pic 3 "[This] is the first photo of our 180-gallon reef tank along with the 60-gallon open sump and 20 gallon Caulerpa tank plumbed in on the right side."

"This tank is about seven months old at this time and all seems to be healthy and growing. The main tank is 180 gallons and is reef and small fish combo with a selection of "reef friendly" critters. The sump is open with a Fu Man Chu lion and a dragon goby that seem to get along. Finally, the Caulerpa tank contains a Porcupine puffer and an orange spot goby."

Isner's Tank Pic 4 "The system is controlled by an Aqua controller II hooked to a dedicated computer with the system running all lights, pumps, pH control, Calcium reactor, ORP, heaters and chiller. It tool awhile to get running properly, but is great now. I have hopes in the future to hook a web-cam to the system so that I can dial in and view the system while away from home."

Added 6/15/02: I was so impressed with Carlyle's stand that I emailed him for more info. Here's his reply:

"...yes the stand was a custom and was made in [the] San Diego area by a local builder per our specifications. After our first tank and wondering how I could make the sump presentable enough to leave open this is what we came up with. The top is not actually a hood, but a skirt that is simply pulled off for cleaning etc. The lights are suspended from the ceiling about fifteen feet up by stainless cables, that we can raise and lower them on. Eventually I would like to hook these to a motor and a servo to raise and lower by remote, but that's for another day."
