A new home for Fish 'N' Chips! I have moved the Fish 'N' Chips WebSite - yes, again! This move will very likely be the last (cross those fingers everybody!). I just couldn't take WebJump anymore - there service might be free, but it sure isn't worth it! Fish 'N' Chips' new home is at (http://www.marinefiends.com/ (updated 8/24/04). Please go check it out, bookmark it, and let me know what you think. All my website work is why this issue is so small.

New Things on the WebSite! Here are just some of the things I've added to the new Fish 'N' Chips WebSite:

Searching for Johan or Driaan Bresler - Johan submitted to me a DIY project and a site submission. I've tried emailing you a number of times without success. If you are out there, please email me at fishnchips@mail.com from an email address that I can actually respond to. I'd really like to publish your DIY project and add your site to my Fishy Links Site List. So, send me that email!

Free Graphics! I've made some more free graphics (blank buttons to be exact) that are fish related. To get them, visit my web design site, High Aspirations, Inc. at http://www.highaspirationsinc.com and click on the Free Graphics Button.

Visit This Month's Subscriber's Tank Showcase
Allen Yorke's Reef Tank is the Showcase for May and can be seen at http://www.marinefiends.com/showcases.html (updated 8/24/04).

What's Up @ ReefsUK
By Elizabeth M. Lukan 5/21/00

4/20/00 - The first update on Richard's GARF Zero Impact Aquarium has been added to the site. The update includes some useful tips and advice, the problems he has had. The update also includes some excellent photographs. Follow the picture link on the home page or follow the "Marine Aquariums" link, then select "Articles" and follow the links for Richards update.

4/20/00 - The article "Sustainable Harvest" by Les Holliday has republished on the site with permission of Les and Practical Fish Keeping (PFK). The article originally appeared in the October 1999 issue of PFK. This is a must read for all marine hobbyists.

5/14/00 - Robert, a ReefsUK email list member is having trouble removing the inner tube section from the Seaclone skimmer to carry out the modifications (they are posted on the ReefsUK site). Robert has tried a hot water soak to no avail. If anyone has carried out the modifications or can think of a safer way to get this tube out, please send an email to ReefsUK (address below).

5/17/00 - A new UK based marine club has been formed. The West Midlands Marine Aquarist Group met for the first time on 5/22/00. For information, please email Chaz Stevens at chaz@kfordaquatics.co.uk.

5/17/00 - Chaz Stevens needs help with a clownfish breeding problem. Following is a quote from Chaz: "...My first two batches of Percs are OK but I am loosing all the subsequent batches at 4 weeks old. I know its not Ammonia or Nitrite poisoning and there is plenty of air in the tanks, has any one else had this problem? I'm getting 100 fish up to this age in a 18"x10"x10" tank with 2 or 3 sponge filters to look after the bio side of things. I've read the books, its practical advice I'm after." Email Chaz directly at chaz@kfordaquatics.co.uk if you can help.

5/18/00 - A mailing list is in the works for ReefsUK. This mailing list would be the first non-commercial emailing list for marine aquarists primarily in the UK and would enable aquarists in all the different fields within the hobby to exchange ideas and information among themselves. If you have suggestions on how they can set-up this email list, ideas on what you think they will need, or if you are willing to donate your time and/or recourses to make this happen, please send them an email (address below).

To join the ReefsUK Mailing List, send an email to post@reefsuk.org.

Editor's Comments:
Information in this section covers the latest happenings at Mark T. Taber's ReefsUK Web Site. Mark has given me permission to publish any information from his mailing list that I feel would be of interest to Fish 'N' Chips subscribers. So, the above, although reworded by me, should be credited to Mark or to Derek Scales who works closely with Mark on the running of ReefsUK. The dates in bold coincide with Mark or Derek's mailings and are provided as a reference.

Reef Central Message Board A-OK

Changes with Reef Central's server has caused some visitors to report problems accessing the Message Board. The board is fine, just make sure you are using this URL: http://www.reefcentral.com/ubbcgi/Ultimate.cgi? (url dead 10/03/05). Do not use a numeric URL or one with "digi-chat" in it.

New URL For Premium Aquatics' Message Board

Premium Aquatics' Message Board is now located at http://www.premiumreef.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi. Jason has moved the board to a much faster server.

Don't forget to visit Jason's Premium Aquatics at http://www.premiumaquatics.com.

West Nile Virus Warning
By Elizabeth M. Lukan 5/21/00

For those of you who have been spending too much time in their tanks since last spring or so, there has been an outbreak of the deadly West Nile Virus hitting the Northeast USA area. This virus is transmitted by mosquito. I know some of you use mosquito larvae as a food source (seahorse breeders come quickly to mind). Standing water is a no-no this year, so please find another food source for your baby fish. Lives are more important than fish food when other sources are available.

To Submit Your Tip: Send your tip via email to fishnchips@mail.com and I'll publish it in an upcoming issue of Fish 'N' Chips. I'll write it up for you or you can do it yourself if you are so inclined. Make sure you let me know if I can include your name and email address or if you'd rather go anonymous.
